SWAN 88

THE CONCEPT

The Swan 88 is the first model fully developed from the outset to offer a hybrid electric propulsion option in partnership with Torqeedo and sees continuation of the cooperation of German Frers for Naval Architecture, Misa Poggi for Interior Design and Lucio Micheletti, Micheletti + Partners, for the exterior styling.

The Swan 88 is designed to present a super-smart opportunity for Owners to reduce running costs by chartering.  This performance maxi design cleverly satisfies the critical 24 metre load line length rule for compliance to the light MCA charter regulations.  Nautor Swan’s decision to develop this vessel stems from the aim to offer a true performance superyacht based on an efficient platform, minimizing management costs and simplifying the charter certification process.

DESIGN

The architect

Germán Frers

“The New Model is an evolution of the previous models, but for this one we’ve done a complete study for the balance, the performance, the position of the rig and the shape of the sails” says Germàn Frers. “According to the results of these studies, we designed the hull”.

DECK

As on every Swan, the heart of the yacht is its deck, which on the Swan 88 can be separated into four defined areas, the first three located in the cockpit/aft while the fourth is found in the fore section. In the guest cockpit, Swan has introduced a newly evolved coachroof design on the 88 that takes inspiration from previous generations of maxi yachts, bringing together the practicality of an integrated sprayhood and bimini, with a very elegant line. The cockpit’s modular benches can be arranged in a number of different configurations, such as lounging and full dining set-ups. The maneuvering area with the yacht’s winches and steering pedestals is centrally positioned in this area, to allow space at the stern for a completely new beach area where guests can recline or lie down, with access to the water as well as the large tender garage. Forward of the mast, there is a fourth area which can be used for sunbathing or as a sunset lounge, with a large sail locker and anchor locker below the deck.

The deck engineering

Micheletti+Partners

To design Swan 88 we needed to find a new and timeless style that carries the Swan brand forward, a boat conceived around a new luxury where the future reinterprets the classic. We wanted a shape smoothed by the wind where the essential and dynamic lines were enhanced.

“When you walk onto a boat, you should walk into a very comfortable, harmonious and magical place. This magic comes from the balance created between volume, geometries, architecture and materials.”

CONFIGURATIONS

INTERIORS

Timeless Classic

The yacht is fitted with natural materials such as linen, cotton and leather in shades of white, naturally light colours, natural brown and putty tones for leather. These blend with light durmast wood, giving the yacht a sophisticated feel and bringing warm, sunny countries to mind.

INTERIORS

TraditionalNavy

Linens and cottons in navy blue and shaded white blend with various shades of tobacco in fabric and leather.
There is also the traditional wood used for sailing, namely natural teak, taking those on board back to the long-established seafaring concept of historical sailing clubs.

INTERIORS

Wine Cowes

Natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are featured in different shades of wine, Cowes red and the fundamental shaded white. There is also “drunken” leather and Canaletto walnut, bringing to mind the Admiral’s Cup and Fastnet Race triumphs of sports sailing.

INTERIORS

Spirit of Finland

A typical modern Swan interior featuring an under-stated Nordic approach with use of hand-crafted timbers and seaworthy detailing.
Light European oak and walnut floorboards are paired with carefully selected performance fabrics in light natural colours and earthy leather accents for a soft touch. A timeless, light yacht interior from the land of the midnight sun.
